MANILA, Philippines – Meralco defeated Talk 'N Text, 91-83, to nab the solo leadership in the PBA Commissioner's Cup at the Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday evening.
The Bolts, led by Gary David’s 17 points, maintained the upper hand over the Tropang Texters all throughout the game.
Although import Josh Davis was limited to just 8 points, he registered 17 of Meralco’s rebounds as they defeated the Texters in the battle of the boards, 52-35.
Meralco now occupies the top spot in the standings with 3 straight wins, while Talk ‘N Text was relegated to fourth place with its first defeat in 3 games.
Talk 'N Text was trailing Meralco by 5 points after two quarters, 41-46.
The Texters were able to cut the deficit down to 1 point, 61-62, when Ranidel De Ocampo knocked down a triple, 3:51 minutes remaining in the third canto.
But David and Jai Reyes brought the led back to 7 points going to the final quarter.
Talk 'N Text again threatened to take the lead midway the last period when Willie Miller rifled a shot from three point country to pull the Texters within 81-82.
Meralco, however, outlasted the Texters and even hiked the advantage to 8 points by the final buzzer.
Import Richard Howell led talk 'N Text with 24 points and 9 rebounds.
Jayson Castro added 18.
