MANILA - Former senator Panfilo Lacson said he has already forgiven all those who "committed incriminatory machination" and even subornation of witnesses to pin him down in the Dacer-Corbito case, as ex-PAOCTF agent Cezar Mancao said he was sorry for his role in peddling a lie and was ready to surface anew.
Mancao had said previously that Lacson, then head of President Joseph Estrada's Presidential Anti-organized Crime Task Force, had a hand in the 2000 killings of former publicist Bubby Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito. Now, Mancao is clearing Lacson and Estrada and has reportedly sent surrender feelers to Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, after escaping from NBI custody since returning to the country over four years ago.
Mancao said he was just pressured by unnamed forces in the previous administration to drag the name of Lacson, who went into hiding for nearly two years towards the end of the Arroyo regime.

De Lima said Saturday Mancao cannot set conditions for his surrender anew - he had flown home from the US with a promise to cooperate with authorities - and must speak the truth. He must also face responsibility for whatever role he had in the double murder case.
Reacting to reports that Mancao was sorry for dragging him into the fray, Lacson said Saturday: "More than the persecution of innocent people, what Cezar Mancao did four years ago spoke of his weak character. Surely, I know all those who committed incriminatory machination, even subornation of perjury by the assigned prosecutor herself, and I will never forget their names."
Lacson added: "Regardless, I have already forgiven all of them. In a way, I thank them for letting me know who my true friends are."
