Philippines invites Singaporeans to invest in Aquino government's PPP projects


MANILA - The Philippines has offered to Singaporean investors a number of public-private partnership (PPP) projects.
During the Philippines-Singapore Business’ Council Forum last February 4, PPP Center executive director Cosette V. Canilao showcased the PPP investment opportunities in the country.
“There are eleven PPP projects that are under procurement with an indicative total cost of P279.92 billion”, Canilao said in a statement.
Last December, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) published the invitation to pre-qualify and bid for the development, operations and maintenance of six airport PPP projects: Laguindingan, Davao, Bohol, Iloilo, Bacolod and Puerto Princesa.
The World Bank identified these airport projects as essential infrastructure to realize the Master Plan for Asean Connectivity (MPAC).
As of January, there were 61 PPP projects in the pipeline. Of the total, 29 belonged to DOTC and 12 to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The remaining projects in the pipeline fall under the Departments of Health (DoH), of Education (DepEd), Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS).
Last January 23, the government issued its 9th notice of award for the Integrated Transport System (ITS) – Southwest Terminal Project to MWM Terminals, a consortium of Megawide Construction Corporation and WM Property Management Inc.
A pre-bid conference on February 9 is set for the ITS-South Terminal.
Since the launch of the PPP program in 2010, the government has awarded the following 8 projects:
  • P2.01-billion Daang Hari-Slex Link Road Project;
  • P16.28-billion School Infrastructure Project Phase 1;
  • P15.52-billion NAIA Expressway (Phase II) project;
  • P5.69-billion Modernization of the Philippine Orthopedic Center Project;
  • P1.72-billion Automatic Fare Collection System Project;
  • P17.52-billion Mactan-Cebu International Airport Passenger Terminal Building Project; and
  • P64.9-billion LRT Line 1 Cavite Extension and O&M Project.
